JakartaDuring the pandemic, the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals has been horribly impacted. In accordance with “Sustainability” as the highlight of the SDGs, International Relations In-depth Sequence of Event (IRISE) LSPR would like to emphasize the importance of sustainable living for a better future. IRISE LSPR believes that a resilient and sustainable world is the key to survive during the current COVID-19 pandemic. In order to achieve such a world, it is important to raise awareness and educate the public, especially youth as the next generation, about the SDGs and issues to strengthen society. Therefore, the IRISE LSPR held an online conference consisting of 5 SDGs, including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well Being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

The event was created by LSPR students of class IR 22-1SP, and aims to provide insight into the development of SDGs in Indonesia. This online conference was held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 via zoom. The IRISE LSPR Sustainability and Beyond is divided into five sessions with the following detailed themes:

  1. SDG 3 : “Sustainable Health as the Root of Public Well-Being, Prosperity, and High-Quality Life”
  2. SDG 5 : “The Shadow Pandemic: Uneven Progress Towards Gender Equality”
  3. SDG 8 : “Modern Slavery: Harmonizing Business and Human Rights”
  4. SDG 13 : “Climate 101: The Importance of Sustainability”
  5. SDG 16 : “Paradox of Democracy: Force as the Sentinel of Democracy”

IRISE LSPR: Sustainability & Beyonds invites professional, credible, experienced and motivating speakers. SDG 3 speakers are Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, M.Epid, Spokesman of Vaccine Covid-19 & Ministry of Health and Dr. Muhammad Kamil, PhD, the Initiator of Pandemictalks Speaker.

To further strengthen women empowerment, SDG 5 invited Puteri Anetta Komarudin – Member of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), Amanda Normanita – Gender Equality Activist and Aminath Ali – Co-founder of Southern Community Empowerment Association of Maldives.

With experiences in various world-class organizations, Margianta Surahman as Founder and Executive Director of Emancipate Indonesia, together with Roland Ediage as Head of Partnership & Collaboration for United People Global (UPG) and H.E. Yuyun Wahyuningrum as Representative of Indonesia for ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, was invited as a speaker at SDG 8.

For SDG 13, IRISE invited Ratu Maulia Ommaya as Head of Values, PR and Community the Body Shop Indonesia and Amanda Katili Niode as Manager of Climate Reality Indonesia.

The speaker at the last session SDG 16, was Major General (Ret.) Bambang Hartawan M.SC. as Former General Director of Defense Forces for the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia and H.E. Dian Triansyah Djani as Ambassador/Special Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on Priority Issues.
