On Wednesday, 13 May 2020, LSPR Teatro held a webinar with the main topic “Online Theatre Directing” presented by Mr. Billy Gamaliel, M.Si, as LSPR Alumni and Program Manager of Indonesia Kaya. He talked about the importance of being a director for a theatre production and highlighted how a Director should have a storytelling skill.

Overall, during the rehearsal, the role of Director also put a huge impact on the production itself. The Director must build a connection, relationship, and good ambiance among all the casts. Since he mentioned the needs in storytelling skill, it is because The Director must interpret in a very clear way to all the casts about their vision for this production. They must create a mutual understanding between the cast and crew members. One of the obstacles for being a Director is to create the environment and manage it all. Besides that, the Director should give respect equally to everyone. Here are some tips and trick for you who wants to be a Director, as mentioned by Mr. Billy, the first thing you have to do is explore yourself by being involved in all divisions, both as a crew and a cast. So, you can understand how it all works. Then, observe the others, be confident and start.
