Jakarta LSPR Communication & Business Institute once again held a series of performances at The 27thLSPR Theater Festival and The 17thLSPR Performing Arts Communication Festival. This annual event is a performance by students majoring in Performing Arts Communication (PAC) and students who are studying in their first year. Located at The Amani Palladium Theater 15th Floor, Transpark Bekasi Campus, from January 24 to February 24 2022, the students involved will take pictures, followed by the editing and broadcasting process which will be carried out on the LSPR TV YouTube channel. This event is one of the curricula to hone student talents through performing arts, not only as actors but also mastering the pre-production to post-production processes. Until 2021, LSPR has succeeded in producing more than 368 theater titles.

This annual event involves 27 classes, consisting of 2 classes in the PAC concentration Business Studies. Occupant, Clandestine, Lakuna, The End: The Musical, Lekad Ageng, De Colegio, Corpse Bride: The Musical, A Perfect Black, Séance: The Great Beyond, Untangled : Gothel, Putri Kembang Dadar, Sanguine, Love Letters I Never Sent, Sweet Records, Delilah, A Silver Lining, The Dreamt, The Legend Of D’umai, Dimension : Ballade Of Serendipity ‘Chesterella’, Ursula “A Princess Who Becomes A Bear”, Here We Go Again, Parallel, Facade, Lost Soul, Viridity, Sukma, Dan Finally are the theater titles that performed and short films at The 27th LSPR Theater Festival and The 17thLSPR Performing Arts Communication Festival. Communication education through performing arts is a form of final semester exam for students from the PAC concentration, and first-year students in the Introduction to PAC. At this stage, the creativity of first year students is honed to look stunning on stage, and master the preparation behind the scenes. These skills include directing roles, arranging lighting, sound, costumes, make-up, and selling show tickets. However, there are some interesting differences in this year’s event, because it is intended as a virtual show, students are also trained to be able to understand how to take pictures with professional cameras and beautify the results through editing. The determination of story themes and genres carried by each class has a variety, some of which use modern and traditional stories.

Since the beginning, this event has always attracted the attention of the audience, both internal and external to LSPR. Although this year’s event was held virtually, it did not reduce the enthusiasm of the audience to witness the work of LSPR students. In 2008 LSPR’s 4th Theater Festival, broke the record for the Longest Theater Production and received an award from the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI). “The purpose of this course is for students to gain experience in work, experience in creating work concepts, experience with aesthetics and experience to feel the function of art education for life and to work in teams,” explained the Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Mikhael Yulius Cobis. He explained that through theatrical production, students not only learn to appear confidently in front of the public, but also gain experience in dealing with many characters and roles that reflect or will be applied in real life. “Because actually everyone is an actor in the drama of their own lives. To be a successful life actor, one must have communication skills, so that they can convey messages in the form of words or gestures,” said Mikhael.

Dr. Sri Ulya Suskarwati as Head of Undergraduate Program in Communication, stated that one of the characteristics of the LSPR Institute curriculum is conveying communication messages through art performances. Achievements in learning in this area are through various academic activities with a Student Centered Learning, which focuses on lecturers in encouraging students to understand science at the level of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. “Through the Project Based Learning, students are involved in designing and implementing the theories and concepts that have been learned in class. The Theater Festival is one of the projects as a result of the work and creativity of students that we should appreciate. This activity is their effort to package communication through performing activities with a touch of art in conveying messages to their target audience,” he said.

Dr. Yessy Gusman, a senior artist who is also one of the lecturers at LSPR said “The LSPR Theater Festival which is held every year is a wonderful means for our students to learn how to communicate their thoughts and feelings through working together as a team in conveying a message through a media. artworks. The result is a beautiful theatrical performance involving acting, dance and music created with all their heart and soul with universal understanding.” he said.

Not only that, one of the Batch 25 students who is a contestant for Indonesian Idol 2021, Karen said, “In this Theater Festival activity, what I feel is definitely challenging because I have never acted while singing and dancing at the same time. However, singing, acting is my passion and I love dancing as well , so it’s not a burden at all. It’s also nice to get input from Lecturers or Lecturer Assistants, because I can improve. It’s exhausting but fun! I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to become the main cast. In the series of The 27thLSPR Theater Festival , I gained new experiences, knowledge, developed talents, and of course I can be more confident.” he said.

At this festival, every class that is a member of The 27thLSPR Theater Festival will have the opportunity to get an award according to the judges’ assessment during the festival at the Awarding Ceremony which will be held on March 4, 2022. The jury in charge of the 22-day performance is the son of the late, Arswendo Atmowiloto Soni Wibisono, Founder of the Mobile Theater Rudolf Puspa, and Director and Founder of Ananda Aditya Gumay.
