LSPR x Hosei University: Sharing Insights on Business and Culture

Jakarta—March 19th, 2025— The LSPR Institute of Communication and Business hosted the “Sharing and Interview Session of LSPR Institute x Hosei University.” The event brought together representatives from LSPR’s Faculty of Business, Faculty of Communication, and the International Relations and Partnership Office, along with delegates from Hosei University, including Prof. Yasuo Nakatani from the Faculty of Economics and a group of Hosei University students. The session commenced with welcoming remarks from Dr. Yuliana Riana Prasetyawati, M.M., Dean of the Faculty of Business, and Mr. Yoseph Wahyu Kurniawan, Secretary of the Dean of the Faculty of Communication, who highlighted the importance of international collaboration in fostering academic excellence, cross-cultural understanding, and global engagement. The opening session concluded with remarks from Prof. Yasuo Nakatani, who emphasized the value of this collaboration in providing participants with deeper insights into the Indonesian and Japanese markets, as well as their respective business cultures.

Following the opening remarks, the event continued with a series of presentations. LSPR students delivered a presentation on “Contemporary Indonesia’s Business Culture,” highlighting how cultural values such as respect for hierarchy, relationship-oriented communication, and networking influence business practices in Indonesia. They also explored how traditional values are integrated with modern business approaches, emphasizing the importance of trust and personal relationships in business transactions. In addition, the presentation examined the impact of globalization on Indonesia’s business landscape, featuring data on the country’s key industries, opportunities for foreign businesses, and challenges faced by international companies entering the Indonesian market. As part of the session, the students also proposed market strategies to help businesses better align their products and services with Indonesian consumer preferences and market trends, providing valuable insights for business development in the region. The session concluded with an interactive research activity led by the Hosei University students. They distributed questionnaires to LSPR students and lecturers to gather feedback on the brands LION, Calbee, and Toyota, which will contribute to their ongoing research project.

The event proved useful not only for the students but also for the lecturers to share their expertise on the business culture of Indonesia, educating us on key cultural factors and how these impact domestic business practices. Both institutions were able to gain a better understanding of consumer tastes, thus enhancing the quality of research of each institution. This was a learning experience since it opened the eyes of the students to Japanese methods of market research and business proposal development firsthand. They had also learned the importance of applying data-driven research and market strategy development in expanding businesses globally.
