The LSPR Communication Studies Program received a license from the Press Council in 2013 to become a Journalist Competency Certification Institution  representing Higher Education institutions. The license, numbered 04-LPPT/SK-DP/IX/2023, was granted based on the Press Council’s Decree No. 13/SK-DP/IX/2013.

As part of the LSPR Communication and Business Institute, the LSPR Journalist Competency Certification Institution is committed to producing competent, professional, and ethical journalists in accordance with the standards set by the Press Council. We believe that competent journalists will contribute to creating a more responsible and credible media ecosystem.

Vission and Mission

Vision:
To become a credible and professional journalist competency certification institution that supports a free and responsible press, in line with the vision of the Press Council.

Mission:

  • Conducting journalist competency examinations based on the Journalist Competency Standards (SKW).
  • Enhancing the capacity and professionalism of journalists through training and mentorship.
  • Contributing to the creation of a more responsible and ethical media ecosystem.
  • Establishing collaborations with media institutions, academics, and press organizations to improve the quality of journalism in Indonesia.

Our Programs

As a licensed institution recognized by the Press Council, LSPR conducts Journalist Competency Certification (UKW) specifically for Newspapers and Online Media at three levels:

  • Junior Journalist (Muda) – For reporters who are new to the journalism industry, with a minimum of one year of experience.
  • Intermediate Journalist (Madya) – For mid-level journalists (editors, redactors) who have an in-depth understanding of journalism and have held a junior journalist competency certificate for at least three years.
  • Senior Journalist(Utama) – For senior journalists (chief editors) with extensive experience, capable of leading and mentoring other journalists, and who have held an intermediate journalist competency certificate for at least two years.

In addition to competency examinations, LSPR Journalist Competency Certification Institution also offers Journalism Skills Assessments, as well as training and workshops aimed at enhancing journalistic skills, media ethics, and understanding of press regulations in Indonesia. Topics covered include:

  • Techniques for writing high-quality news articles.
  • Journalistic code of ethics.
  • Utilizing technology in journalism.
  • Ethics in interviews and news coverage.
  • Social media management and utilization for journalists.
