On August 5, 2018, The London School of Public Relations – Jakarta (LSPR) and Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (LPPM) held a “Child-Friendly Internet Literacy Education” event in Ruang Publik Terbuka Ramah Anak (RPTRA), DKI Jakarta.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, ICT Watch, Sejiwa Foundation, Children’s Forum – Jakarta and Traditional Games Returns Community, LSPR ten lecturers and one hundred students organized the event addressed to parents with 7-14-years-old children. The main target of the event was to maximize the awareness of parents of the importance and functionality of the Internet. The digital literacy is becoming a widespread dimension among many families.

Thus, this event involved around 800 people from different areas, for example, RPTRA Meruya Utara, RPTRA Borobudur, RPTRA Cililitan, RPTRA Kebon Sirih, RPTRA Rasamala, RPTRA Semper Barat, RPTRA DKI Berseri, RPTRA Tiga Durian. “We hope that the Child-Friendly Internet Literacy” activities will help to provide a real contribution in the education industry, therefore, will bring the awareness and understanding the importance of the use of the Internet. We think that the role of parents is a key to ensure digital benefits for children’s personal growth and development,” said Yuliana Riana P, MM, the Chairman of the Community, LSPR – Jakarta.

Being one of the leading communication schools in Indonesia, LSPR – Jakarta realizes and admits the importance of educating the public about the use of the Internet as well. LSPR students, PIC LSPR Community Service, Aghnina Wahdini and Tasya, added that the Internet literacy is very important. It gives students other perspectives regarding the Internet topics, anti-bullying and anti-hate-speeches served by LIRA and EDU. LIRA is an acronym for Child-Friendly Internet Literacy and EDU stands for education.

So, the support from the Ministry, local government agencies, educational institutions, civil society organizations, among others, will help to create a new platform for educating future young generation.
